Monday is the deadline for registering to vote in the July 31 primary and special election.
The Coweta County Voter Registrar’s Office will be open today from 9 a.m. until noon for those wishing to register to vote.
The voter registration office is at 22 East Broad St. in downtown Newnan.
You can also register with a paper voter registration form, which is available online at www.sos.georgia.gov/elections, and at various other locations, including public libraries.
Forms must be postmarked by July 2 for the registration to be valid for the July 31 election and runoff (if needed).
If you are registered to vote but have moved, Monday is the last day to file an address change for the July 31 election. Those who have moved within the county can vote in one election using their old address.
Paper absentee ballots for the election were mailed starting June 16. In-person early voting will start July 9 at the voter registration office.
To request a paper absentee ballot, mail, fax, or drop off an absentee ballot request form at the voter registration office. Forms are available at the office or online at www.sos.georgia.gov/elections.
You don’t have to have the actual form, however. Instead, you can put the required information on a sheet of paper and submit it. Contact the voter registration office, at 770-254-2615, for more information.
The fax number is 770-683-2800.

There are only a few contested local races on the ballot. The biggest issue is the proposed one percent regional sales tax for transportation projects, better known as TSPLOST. There will also be Sunday alcohol sales questions in Coweta and Grantville.

The Democratic and Republican parties have also placed several questions on the partisan primary ballots. The non-binding questions are essentially opinion polls.

For more information, or if you are unsure of your voter registration status, contact the Coweta voter office at 770-254-2615 or e-mail jhamilton@coweta.ga.us . You can also use the Georgia Secretary of State’s My Voter Page at www.sos.georgia.gov/mvp .
