A Summer of Swing jazz concert tonight at Wadsworth Auditorium joins Main Street Newnan’s Summer Wined-Up event in providing an evening of entertainment in downtown Newnan.
A Summer of Swing begins at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $15 per person. Concert-only tickets are available at Scott’s Bookstore and Let Them Eat Toffee in downtown Newnan, at Morgan’s Jewelers at Ashley Park, and at Bank of Coweta - Thomas Crossroads branch.
Concert ticket sales are cash or check only.
A special advance-purchase combo ticket is available for the concert and wine tasting. For $30, get a ticket for the wine tasting event and the Summer of Swing big band concert – a savings of $15 over the individual price of both regular tickets.
The City of Newnan Cultural Arts Commission has organized the summer concert at Wadsworth.
A Summer of Swing will feature Night Train, a 17-piece band who will perform an evening of big band, jazz, and swing hits from the 1940s through today from artists such as Maynard Ferguson, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Ted Heath, Harry James, and Billy May.
According to bandleader Perry Peek, Night Train is “a big band that swings in the style of an era when bandleaders were the kings of swing.”

In addition to the instrumentalists, Night Train includes two vocalists – Karin Williams and Tony Winston – who will sing hits such as “I’m in the Mood for Love,” “Come Fly With Me,” “Mack the Knife,” “Georgia,” and “I’ve Got the World on a String.”

Tonight’s concert joins Main Street Newnan’s fourth annual wine event “Summer Wined-Up” — previously known as “Wine About the Economy.” The wine sampling event runs from 5-9 p.m. Twenty-one merchants have signed up to participate, each featuring a different wine.

Advance tickets for just the wine tasting are $20. The cost will be $25 for those purchasing tickets tonight.

Advance tickets for Wined-Up may be purchased via the Main Street website. Tickets purchased on the website can be picked up at the registration table tonight on the Court Square. Advance tickets are also at the Main Street Office on First Avenue, Grannie Fannie’s Antiques, Piedmont Wellness Center, Fine Lines Art & Framing, R. DuBose Jewelers, Design House, Let Them Eat Toffee, and Bank of Coweta.

Those taking the Wined-Up wine sampling tour will check in at the registration table in front of Cook’s Office Equipment on East Court Square to receive their brochure, commemorative wine glass, and event bracelet. The brochures will have a map of participating locations as well as information about the wines.

Event-goers for Wined-Up will need to bring a photo ID and be 21 or older to receive their event bracelet. Everyone must wear their event bracelet at all times.
