A Newnan resident was flown by helicopter ambulance to an Atlanta area hospital after being shot around 1 p.m. Tuesday, and police are searching for a “person of interest.”
The victim, Fred Barrison, 27, was in serious condition with at least one gunshot in the torso area, according to Rodney Riggs, deputy chief with the Newnan Police Department.
Witnesses said they heard multiple gunshots in the area of Landers Street, the deputy chief said. After being shot, Barrison ran to a nearby house and was driven in a private car to Piedmont Newnan Hospital. From there Barrison was flown to an Atlanta hospital.
“We have not made any arrests at this time, but we do have a person of interest we are looking for, Riggs said.
Police are continuing to investigate the events leading up to the shooting, as well as if others may be involved. The weapon had not been found as of late Tuesday.
