Newnan rallies past M.L. King, returns to quarterfinals

Newnan head football coach Mike McDonald gives his team a hand after the Cougars advanced to next Friday’s Class AAAAA state quarterfinals with a 15-6 win over M.L. King at Drake Stadium.

Despite trailing 6-0 at halftime and falling behind an opponent for the third consecutive week, Newnan put together a pair of touchdowns in the second half in addition to forcing a Lion safety to advance in the second round of the state playoffs and remain unbeaten at 12-0.

It is the third straight trip to the Class AAAAA quarterfinals for Newnan’s football program. The Cougars will now face unbeaten Grayson with a coinflip today to decide home field.
