Newnan residents have the opportunity this week at A. Mitchell Powell Jr. Public Library, at 25 Hospital Road, to learn about Georgia Health -- Go Local.
The special week is to help familiarize people with a new online resource. Patrons may stop by the reference desk to learn to use the site.
Georgia Health -- Go Local is connected to MedlinePlus.gov, the health Web site of the world's largest medical library, the National Library of Medicine.
If, for example, someone viewing Alzheimer's-related services wants to learn more about Alzheimer's disease, click on "Health Information" and go to a MedlinePlus.gov page about the disease. Alternatively, someone reading about Alzheimer's on MedlinePlus.gov can link to Georgia Health -- Go Local to find Alzheimer's-related health services in their zip code or county.
For information, contact the reference department manager at 770-253-3625, extension 212, or the public services librarian at extension 213.
