Longtime Coweta teacher Holly Moulder smiles as she prepares to sign copies of her newest book, “Crystal City Lights.”

During World War II, mistrust led to the detainment of entire German-American and Japanese-American families in internment camps until the war ended.

In “Crystal City Lights,” local author Holly Moulder captures the challenges an internment camp created for a sixth-grader and her family who were removed from their home New Jersey and imprisoned in a desolate camp in Crystal City, Texas.

On April 28, Moulder debuted the publication of her book at a signing at White Oaks Elementary School. Despite the inclement weather, a full-capacity crowd assembled to purchase copies of “Crystal City Lights.”

The 10 winners of Moulder’s Great American Hero writing contest for Coweta County’s third, fourth, and fifth-graders were introduced and presented with copies of the books they helped create. All 10 are proud to be published authors.

The students are Abby Collins, Garrett Curbow, Sarah Dean, Emery Faircloth, Shyann Flores, Riece Green, Yates Kelleher, Anneslei Lillard, Sydney Marriaga and Jim Salisbury.

Moulder is scheduled to attend the prestigious BookExpoAmerica, the annual convention of the publishing world where new titles are introduced to book sellers and librarians. This year’s event will be held at the end of May in the Javits Center in New York City.

A former fifth-grade teacher for 21 years in Coweta County, Moulder is well-known among students and faculty. She often conducts school programs, where she shares historical information contained in her other titles, “Eyes of the Calusa” and “A Cord of Three Strands.

Moulder also facilitates A Writers’ Exchange, which is held bi-monthly at the Carnegie Library in downtown Newnan.
