Why did you become a teacher?

I went back to school late and graduated from college when I was 36. I had volunteered at my kids’ school and became a parapro. The principal told me I should teach. I did not want to teach, but I lived volunteering. I prayed about it for a long time, and God gave me the desire to teach. So I went back to school, and the rest is history. I can’t imagine doing anything else.

What is your favorite part?

Building relationships with parents and students, not just relationships for the year, but for a life time. I want to make a difference in all their lives. It’s not just educating children for a lifetime, but educating their whole family for a lifetime and working as a team to help their child be successful.

If you were not a teacher, what would be doing?

I don’t know. Probably something in the mission field. I can’t really see myself doing anything else.

What is your favorite movie?

To Kill a Mockingbird

What is the one thing you want your students to learn?

That school can be a fun learning experience and you can do and be whatever you want to be.

What are your summer plans?

I’m going to enjoy spending time with my grandchildren and may take a trip to Texas.
