Kelley

Todd Kelley teaches PE at Newnan Crossing Elementary School. This year is his 13th of teaching.

Why did you become a teacher?

I had a lot of coaches who impacted my life. It put education in a different light for me and showed me what I needed to do to get to a new place in life. I was the first one in my family to graduate from college.

What is the best part?

When you see the kids have that “ah-ha” moment, and they get it. The kids get so excited. It makes it rewarding. I see those kids later in life, and they say, “You helped me.” It makes the hectic pace worthwhile.

If you were not a teacher, what would you be doing?

I did HVAC stuff for eight months. I had the diploma and was certified for it. But it made me realize I didn’t want to do it long term, and I needed to go back to school.

What do you do for fun?

Go fishing and ride my Harley.

Do you have a family?

My wife, Sally, works at Arnco-Sargent Elementary. We have two little girls, Sophie and Sadie.

What is your favorite movie(s)?

Cool Hand Luke

O, Brother Where Art Thou?

What is the one thing you want your students to learn?

That fitness and sports are not just for PE class. It’s something they can do at home and for the rest of their lives.

What do you plan to do over the summer?

Work on my three grad school classes and go fishing.
