Locals inducted into Phi Kappa Phi

The following local residents recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines: Lisa Reeves of Grantville, Mercer University chapter; Ashley Quesinberry of Newnan, Georgia College & State University chapter; Allison Smith of Newnan, Georgia College & State University chapter; Hannah Hagley of Newnan, Georgia College & State University chapter; Autumn Vineyard of Newnan, Mercer University chapter; and Kristopher Nelson of Sharpsburg, Georgia College & State University chapter. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors, having at least 72 semester hours, are eligible for membership.

Crain inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma

In its 101st year dedicated to recognizing excellence in the study and practice of business, Beta Gamma Sigma has announced its 2014 Honor Society members. Joe Crain, III, a student at Berry College in Rome, was chosen for his superior performance in the study of business. By definition, those who earn honor society membership, especially in the International Honor Society Beta Gamma Sigma, are the very best among their peers. Crain, a Newnan High School graduate, is a junior seeking a degree in marketing. His parents are Joe and Sandee Crain.

Johnson honored by Atlanta-National Football Foundation

Andrew Johnson of McIntosh High School's football team in Fayette County is being honored for his football and scholastic achievements by the Touchdown Club of Atlanta-National Football Foundation Chapter. The club honored 21 special student athletes and seven student managers for their scholastic achievements at the annual TCA-NFF Scholarship banquet on Sunday, April 27, at the CNN Omni Center.

Madden awarded Reinhardt U’s Dean’s Scholarship

Luke Madden, a resident of Sharpsburg and a senior at Northgate High School, was awarded the Reinhardt University Dean's Scholarship. Madden's intended major at Reinhardt is biology education. Reinhardt is located in Waleska.

Caldwell and Holloway honored at Brenau U.

Two local students were honored for academic excellence and achievement during the Honors Convocation at Brenau University in Gainesville on April 17. Ensley Ann Caldwell of Sharpsburg was named the Italian Award winner. Caldwell is a junior studying theater. Andrea N. Holloway of Newnan was named the Honors Seminar Award winner. Holloway is a junior studying health sciences.

Sonko named VP of Academic Affairs at GSSU

Kemo Sonko from Newnan has been elected the new Georgia Southwestern State University Student Government Association Vice President of Academic Affairs.
