Leidy Zern teaches third grade at Newnan Crossing Elementary School. He has been teaching for six years, all at Newnan Crossing.

Why did you become a teacher? 

I’ve always liked teaching. I started out doing accounting, but I became bored with it and went back to school to pursue teaching.

What is the best part of being a teacher? 

When I see the success of somebody who is not usually successful. I love the look on their face when they accomplish the goal they’ve set.

If you were not a teacher, what would you be doing? 

I would probably do something with math. I like figuring out puzzles and statistics.

Do you have a family? 

Yes, I am married, and my wife and I have two daughters. One is in first grade, and the other is 2. My wife is also a teacher. She teaches at Willis Road Elementary.

What is your favorite movie(s)? 

Eight Men Out, Gladiator

What do you do for fun?

I play sports - church softball, soccer, basically any sport. I also enjoy reading.

What is your favorite book? 

Catch 22

What is the one thing you want your students to learn from your class? 

Critical thinking, to know when they have the right answer or wrong answer and how to think through a problem. In addition, knowing how to use those skills to become successful.
