Teacher in Focus: Linda Bohannon
by Celia Shortt
Linda Bohannon teaches first grade at Ruth Hill Elementary School. She has been teaching for 41 years.
Why did you become a teacher?
It was in my blood. I’ve taught all my life. I have 14 siblings, and we would play school. I was also always the teacher with Sunday school kids.
What is your favorite part of being a teacher?
The children and watching them grow. Getting to see when they catch a concept and can see it. I don’t have any kids, so I treat them like my own. They work hard when they’re learning.
If were not a teacher, what would you be doing?
I have no idea.
What do you do when you’re not teaching?
I like to travel. I travel with my brother and his wife. I got him to visit all 50 states. I made it, and he still has two to go. I watch television, read, do word puzzles and visit with family. I do fellowship with my church and the ladies in it.
What is your favorite movie?
Secretariat, I can watch it over and over again. My favorite television show right now is Heartland.
What are your favorite books?
Bible-based literature, The Shack, crossword puzzles
What is the one thing you want your students to learn from your class?
To learn to enjoy learning. Think beyond the box and go for the gold. Just make learning part of life. A life long learner is in all our genes. We are always learning.
