by Celia Shortt

Kathryn Clark, special education, East Coweta Middle School

Kathryn Clark is a special education teacher at East Coweta Middle School. This year is her sixth of teaching.

Why did you become a teacher?

It’s just something that growing up I knew I wanted to do. I had teachers growing up who made learning fun, and my mom was a teacher.

What is your favorite part?

In this role, the Special Olympics. I have a lot of opportunities with them throughout the year.

If you were not a teacher, what would you be doing?

My sister and I have always talked about opening a bakery, but it’s pretty far out there :)

What do you do for fun?

I like to read. I’m book and movie person.

What is your favorite book?

Sense and Sensibility

What is your favorite movie(s)?

You’ve Got Mail, Saving Mr. Banks

What is the one thing you want your students to learn?

Self-confidence. When you leave school, the real world hits. I want my students to know they can get out there and do what other people are doing. They are capable of doing those things.

What is the best part of being at East Coweta Middle School?

I went to ECMS when I was growing up, so it’s kind of like home to me. Some teachers from when I was here as a student are still here. It’s a really caring faculty, pretty much like family.
