Newnan High School to hold Family Literacy Night

Family Literacy Night will be held Tuesday, April 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Newnan High School.

It is planned in conjunction with Smokey Road and Evans middle schools and designed to encourage adolescent literacy and show how reading can be fun and necessary throughout life.

The evening is free and open to parents, students and teachers. The evening will be highlighted with a performance by actor, storyteller and former teacher, Mr. Rob Cleveland. Local authors will be available to talk with participants about their writing process and their work.

Concurrent sessions include information on reading strategies, technology and reading, social media entrepreneurship, a panel presentation and discussion on the importance of reading in various careers, and performances by Coweta Public Library Director, Mr. Jimmy Bass. Atkinson Elementary School will be sponsoring a children’s room for the younger participants.

Light refreshments will be served and a VIP Reader Scavenger Hunt will be part of the evening. Literacy information will be available from several community organizations such as FERST, CLICK, and Coweta Schools Grow and Learn Family Enrichment Program.
