Western Elementary students explore STEM

Students at Western Elementary School have been busy with weekly STEM lessons.

On March 14, Kindergarten students in Mrs. Wade’s and Ms. Paula’s class built Leprechaun traps after reading “Leprechaun on the Loose.” In their attempt to stop the leprechaun from making a mess at Western, students worked in groups and used boxes, string, tape, skittles, water bottles, popsicle sticks, aluminum foil and construction paper to build their traps.

Students enjoyed identifying 2D and 3D shapes and describing the measurable attributes of objects during this activity. After construction, students placed their traps strategically throughout the school.

However, students did not find the Western Leprechaun in any of the traps on March 17th; only messages sending students throughout the school looking for the leprechaun.
