Carr graduates with honors from Tech

Kevin Michael Carr, a 2009 graduate of Newnan High School, has graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with high honors. He earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical and biomolecular engineering. He is the son of Karen Claycomb and Mark Carr, and the grandson of Hubert and Donna Davis, and Monroe and Janie Carr.

Treat awarded memorial scholarship

­Thomas Treat of Tyrone has been awarded the Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial scholarship. Treat, a United States Merchant Marine Academy cadet, was selected for his strong academic record, leadership capacity, and financial need. Treat is a marine engineering systems major at USMMA with a concentration in nuclear engineering. He is the captain of the men’s handball team, company commander, and has served as class president. During his second sailing period, Treat spent time aboard the Crowley-operated M/T Sunshine State transporting liquid cargo from Pascagoula, Miss., to Tampa, Fla. During this time, his interest in the oil industry grew. As a result, he plans to pursue a career aboard drill platforms after graduation.

Heritage School offering afternoon program

The Heritage School is now offering an afternoon program, Afternoon Adventures, to add enrichment to current Heritage School students’school day. Courses offered include Art, Mandarin, Lego Club, Dance, Piano, Children’s Theatre, and Sports Skills. Class hours are from 2:15-3:00 for PreKindergarten and Kindergarten. Class hours are from 3:15-4:00 for 1st-4th grades.
