Local students accepted into Advanced Academy

CARROLLTON, Ga. – Three local area high school students were recently accepted into the University of West Georgia Advanced Academy program.

Bailey Fabricius, a senior at Starr’s Mill High School, Marshala Cofer, a junior at Northgate High School, and Stephen Daniel Kaas-Neal, a senior at The Campus High School, began classes in August. The Advanced Academy is a residential, early entrance to college program at UWG for highly gifted and motivated high school juniors and seniors.

The program was the first of its kind in Georgia. Students apply and are accepted from high schools worldwide, reaching as far as India. In order to be accepted, students must meet high academic standards, including an exceptional grade point average and SAT or ACT scores. They also must submit a resume, essay and teacher recommendations, and complete a competitive interview process.

Advanced Academy students remain enrolled in their original high schools as dual enrolled students to earn their high school diplomas. They live on the UWG campus in a residence hall specifically for Academy students and take full-time UWG classes as a college student, earning both high school and college credit.
