CLICK Adult Literacy class is Sept. 23

Adult Education and Family Literacy Week will be celebrated beginning Monday, September 23rd.

During the same week, CLICK (Certified Literate is Coweta’s Key) and the A. Mitchell Powell Jr. Public Library will begin a partnership offering adult literacy classes.

“As a member of the CLICK board, I have had the opportunity to see first-hand the positive impact on our community when yet another one of our citizens participates in a CLICK program,” commented Director of Libraries Jimmy Bass. “We see the same type of success story every day in the library as we assist our patrons in their search for the right book, program, or website to better their lives.” The literacy classes will begin with an open house-type registration on Tuesday, September 24th, from 9:30 to 12:30 at the Powell Library meeting room. Classes will normally meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30-12:30, and Nancy Langer, an experienced teacher, will lead the sessions.

Ms. Langer’s teaching will be based on a curriculum that focuses on improving literacy levels. Powell Library staff will also be on-hand at some sessions to assist students in learning about library services available not only to them, but also to their families.

“It is the goal of this cooperative effort to create literate citizens who go forward to become life-long learners,” Bass concluded.
