Coweta County Marching Band Exhibition to be held Tuesday

The 2013 Coweta County Marching Band Exhibition, hosted by the East Coweta Marching Indians, will be on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. at Garland Shoemake Stadium. Other marching bands at the event will include: Newnan High School Marching Band, Northgate High School Viking Band, Pike County Pirate Regiment, and the Upson-Lee Marching Knights. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. All middle school band students with a pre-distributed ticket from the band director will be admitted free.

Abraham to study in England

Kyle Abraham of Sharpsburg, a University of Evansville student, will spend the fall 2013 semester studying abroad at Harlaxton College, UE's British campus near Grantham, England.

Abraham, who is majoring in theater management, is among 156 students who began classes Monday, Sept. 2 at Harlaxton, housed in a 120-room Victorian manor in the East Midlands countryside.

The Harlaxton curriculum features a core course, The British Experience, which offers an interdisciplinary introduction to British life and culture. Literature, art history, economics, history, and political science are part of the course, which combines lectures, seminars, and field trips to locations such as Lincoln and London.

Raynor participates in Freshman Service Project

Alisha Raynor of Fairburn participated in the Freshman Service Project on August 26 at the University of Evansville in Indiana. The project sent new UE students to 20 locations throughout Evansville including parks, community centers, and other nonprofit organizations to perform tasks ranging from painting to cleaning to landscaping. The Freshman Service Project is part of Welcome Week, a program designed to help incoming students transition into college life before classes begin.

Locals named to Academic Achievement List at GSSU

The following local residents made the summer 2013 Academic Achievement List at Georgia Southwestern State University and were among 401 students recognized for scholastic achievement: David Crabtree and Nicole Irwin, both of Newnan, and Mallory Underwood of Senoia. To be eligible for the Academic Achievement List, a student must previously earn at least 15 credit hours at GSW, be enrolled in 3 to 14 hours of courses, and earn a 3.5 or higher GPA.

Aldredge makes Dean's List

Hannah Aldredge, daughter of Darrell and Michele Aldredge of Newnan, made the Dean's List at the University of Georgia for the summer 2013 semester. Miss Aldredge is a recent graduate of Northgate High School.

Gomez graduates from Rockford

Erika Gomez of Newnan recently graduated from Rockford College in Illinois with a bachelor of arts degree.

Dixon named to Dean's List at Troy

Henry L. Dixon Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry L Dixon Sr., was recently named to the Dean's List at Troy University in Alabama where he is a senior. Dixon is a 2009 graduate of East Coweta High School and a three-time winner of the Iron Man. He ran track and played football at East Coweta High School.
