Cowetans achieve academic honors at Georgia Military

The Fairburn campus of Georgia Military College recently announced that the following Coweta County students have achieved academic distinction for the 2013 Summer Quarter. Lacey Moore of Newnan and Hannah Drabek of Palmetto were named to the President’s List by earning a 3.7 or above GPA. Britnie Blair of Newnan, Mark Willis of Senoia, and Cassandra Denny of Sharpsburg were named to the Dean’s List by earning between a 3.20 and 3.69 GPA.

B.Y.R.D. House seeks volunteers

Beat The Street, the afterschool program of Behavioral Youth Resource Development Inc. (B.Y.R.D. House) is looking for volunteers to help 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Mondays through Thursdays. Please contact Edith Byrd at 678-423-3200.

Miner named to Dean’s List

Mathew Miner of Fayetteville was recently recognized for achieving academic distinction at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Miner, majoring in business administration, was named to the Dean's List at UMass Lowell for the spring 2013 semester.

To qualify for the dean's list at UMass Lowell, a student must have completed no fewer than 12 graded credits for the semester and earned at least a 3.25 grade point average with no grade lower than C and without any incompletes.

Barnett graduates from Southern Poly

Errin Barnett of Moreland recently graduated Cum Laude from Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta. She was one of two women to graduate with a degree in construction management and also earned a minor in business administration.

Barnett was one of two in the entire department graduating Cum Laude and was instrumental in starting a new tradition at Southern Poly, which allows construction management graduates to wear hard hats with tassels rather than traditional mortar board caps.

Dr. Rossbacher, President of SPSU, was excited about this new tradition and highlighted the Construction Management Department during commencement saying, “CM grads would like to trade in their traditional mortar board caps for a hard hat to show they are ready for the work force.”

Barnett is a member of Sigma Lambda Chi, an International Construction Honors Society; the Association of Builders and Contractors; and Baptist Collegiate Ministries.

Barnett has accepted a position with Southern Company Services as a Construction Engineering Specialist at Plant Bowen in Cartersville.

She is a former Newnan High School honor graduate and the daughter of Tom and Cindy Barnett of Moreland.
