A final reason to remember the tragedies of the past is so that we appreciate the results of the Civil Rights Movement.
If not for leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, and others, many of our nation’s citizens may not enjoy the equal freedoms deserved by all.
We should reflect on these events so that the leaders of the Civil Rights Movement haven’t struggled and died in vain.
Dr. King had a huge impact on this movement as he led several peaceful marches and delivered many powerful speeches.
To remember our past is to be encouraged by how much our country has improved!
There are no more “Colored” signs, separate water fountains, or segregated schools.

This movement can best be remembered when we consider the people who suffered, the people who fought, and the hope that we have today based on our country’s tolerance of differences in its citizens.

I would like to end with one last thought, a quote from While the World Watched, “...may you choose to love, and may you commit yourself to live a life of reconciliation...with those who share this world with you.”

Thank you.
