Education Notes: Swords named Landmark Christian STAR Student

Senior Connor Swords has been named 2013 STAR Student at Landmark Christian School.
Swords, son of Dr. Philip and Lorri Swords of Newnan, chose Landmark math and calculus instructor Dennis Wilson as his STAR teacher.
To be nominated for STAR Student, high school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the three-part SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average.

• Atkinson Elementary Family Fun Night set for Feb. 7
Atkinson Elementary School will hold a Story Laboratory Family Fun Night in the school media center highlighted by experiments, story time and prizes Thursday, Feb. 7 from 4-7 p.m.

The event – which also will feature mad scientist hairstyles for donations toward All For Books, a program which helps needy students buy books – will be held in conjunction with the school’s Feb. 6-8 Scholastic Book Fair. Book fair proceeds will be used to purchase books and materials for Atkinson’s media center, and the fair will be open to shoppers from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day.
