Jefferson Parkway Elementary School presented its Christmas program on the evening of Dec. 19 at the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts.
Parents, grandparents, siblings and friends filled the arts center for the colorful program. Kindergarten and first grade pupils began the evening – singing “Rudolph, the Red-Nose Reindeer” and “Penguin Polka.” As the “Nutcracker Suite” by Tchaikovsky played, a group marched in a circle to “March of the Toy Soldiers” followed by ballerinas twirling to “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.”
Pre-kindergarten then presented “Jingle Bells” – with youngsters jangling small bells – and “Must Be Santa.” Then from the wings came a familiar “ho, ho, ho.”
It was Santa himself. Clad in his traditional red, the North Pole resident took center stage and read Clement Clarke Moore’s classic, “The Night Before Christmas.”
Following intermission, the Jefferson Parkway Chorus performed. They sang “Christmas Makes Me Sing,” “We Three Kings,” “Somewhere in My Memory,” “Winter Walk” and “Have a Holly Jolly Christmas.”

The Jefferson Parkway Ensemble then sang “Go Tell It,” “Snow Flakes,” “Jingle Bells,” “Good King Wenceslas” and “Jolly Old St. Nick.” “Holiday Parade,” “Jingle Bells” and two Tchaikovsky pieces – “Dance of the Flowers” and “Russian Dance” – were part of the program featuring the second and third grades.

The final segment was for fourth and fifth graders. “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” and “The 12 Days of Christmas” were on their song list.
