As part of the state-mandated stormwater management program, the City of Newnan held its public education outreach class recently at Evans Middle School.
The program’s goal is to inform the community about the impacts of storm water discharges on bodies of water and the steps that the public can take to reduce pollutants in storm water runoff.
The City of Newnan has adopted the slogan “Only Rain Down the Storm Drain” to remind residents to keep yard debris, trash, junk, etc. out of storm drains, which are connected to important bodies of water.
All Coweta County middle schools received stormwater magnets as part of the program.
During their stormwater classes, Evans sixth-graders got to make a ‘pollution milkshake,’ answered questions for prizes and saw an “Enviro-scape” mode presentation.
Rob Hill, City of Newnan Engineering Inspector/ Stormwater Management, and Carol Duffey of Keep Newnan Beautiful taught classes about the effects of pollution in stormwater and what students can do to prevent stormwater from being polluted.
