The Parents as Teachers program held a family literacy event at Jefferson Parkway Elementary recently for parents of children in the birth to 4-year-old program.
The event focused on creating a print-rich environment at home. Princess Walton, Parents as Teachers coordinator, and Lisa Copeland, Coweta County School System’s Title 1 monitor, conducted the print-awareness training.
According to Copeland, print awareness is a precursor to early literacy and success in school for elementary and beyond.
United Way sponsors the Parents as Teachers Program in two schools in the Coweta County School System.
