To celebrate Earth Month, and to remind young Newnan residents of their responsibility as members of the human race to protect the environment, Keep Newnan Beautiful hosted an art contest among several of the city schools.
Educators were encouraged to have their students draw an Earth Day-inspired picture and submit it to Keep Newnan Beautiful.
“We received many great drawings and are amazed at all of the creativity and talent we have here in Newnan!” says Carol Duffey, Keep Newnan Beautiful director. “It was difficult but we have come up with the winners,” she said.
Coloring contest winners are Maddy Sparks, a fourth grader at Newnan Crossing Elementary who won first place; second place went to Hershall Smith, a fourth-grader at Elm Street.
There were two honorable mentions – Leah Stambaugh, a fourth grader at Newnan Crossing and an unsigned drawing from a fourth-grader at Elm Street.
“We would love to know who did the second honorable mention drawing. Please visit our website to see if you can determine if it was your child,” says Duffey. “We want to recognize all of the winners!”

Coloring pages have been made from the winning pictures and will be available for visitors to pick-up/color at future events, local businesses, and the City of Newnan’s Business Development Department.
