We reserve the right to screen all story comments for abusive or obscene language (including implied obscenity through the use of asterisks, etc.), subject matter, personal attacks, libel, relationship to the story, "spam," etc. We will also delete comments posted in ALL CAPS, extremely long comments (especially those longer than the original article), or comments that are totally incoherent. We may delete comments that name a juvenile suspect in a crime, or name a juvenile victim. We will delete comments labeling anyone a suspect who has not been officially named a suspect. We will delete comments naming the victim of a sex crime. We will delete comments making unproven accusations. We will delete comments which we deem as abusive, personal attacks on individuals (public or private sector). We will delete comments which make inappropriate innuendoes. We may delete duplicate comments, either by the same author or different ones. We may, at our discretion, delete comments that include hyperlinks to pages outside Times-Herald.com or telephone numbers posted by the person originating a comment.
We welcome comments and criticism of The Times-Herald, but we reserve the right to curtail discussions that become repetitive or abusive. Corrections will be made to a story when appropriate, but we will not post corrections as comments. If you wish to correct one of our stories, you may use the listed email address for the appropriate department on our Customer Service page. Due to the number of comments posted, we will not reply to questions concerning our inclusions or deletions.
Moderated comments will result in more useful feedback for our readers. We pledge to moderate carefully, without bias, but we offer no guarantee that your comment will be approved.
We will only approve or delete comments. We will not edit them. The only exception is if the author quotes a portion of a story incorrectly- we may correct the quote to ensure accuracy. If you are easily embarrassed by spelling or grammatical errors, then please proof your comment carefully before clicking the "submit" button.
We will moderate the comments frequently throughout the day during regular office hours, and less frequently at night and on weekends.
By posting a comment, you give us the right to use your comment anywhere on our web site or in our print edition.
