Free Summer Food Program — Housing Authority of Newnan through its Breakaway Childcare Center is offering a free summer food program with sites in Newnan and Senoia. Meals are provided to all children without charge. Participation requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all children, notes Alfrieda W. Thomas, executive director of the Housing Authority of Newnan’s childcare program. Lunch sites and hours include: 17 Hampton Place in Newnan, noon to 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 to 3 p.m.; and 53 Middle Street in Senoia, with hours noon to 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 to 3 p.m. To be eligible to receive free meals at a residential camp, children must meet the income guidelines for reduced price meals in the National School Lunch Program. For details, contact the Breakaway Childcare Center, 106 West Washington St. in Newnan, at 770-251-5167.

• A Free Summer Food Program is also being offered at the Newnan/ Coweta Boys and Girls Club at 72 Wesley Street in Newnan with lunch noon - 1 p.m. and a snack from 3-3:30 p.m. The food site is being operated under Georgia Nutritional Services Inc. • Alzheimer’s Association fundraiser — The Newnan Ruby Tuesday’s restaurant through the company’s Ruby Tuesday’s Community GiveBack Program is working with the local Alzheimer’s Association to raise funds for the Walk To End Alzheimer’s. On specified dates, for meals where patrons mention the Alzheimer’s Association effort, the Ruby Tuesday’s at 1120 Bullsboro Drive will give 20 percent of the purchase to the organization. Upcoming dates include: July 9, 16, 23; and Aug. 6, 20, 24 and 27. “They must mention they are there for the event,” said Alzheimer’s Association volunteer Lynnette Smith.

• Parkinson’s Support Group meets at First United Methodist Church, Greenville Street, Newnan, second Tuesday of each month, 3:30 p.m. Meetings are in the Gathering Room in the main building. Caregivers welcome. Details: Herman Fletcher, 770-251-1687. Next: July 9.

• Cancer Support Group has held its last meeting until fall. Group normally meets at First Baptist Church of Newnan, 15 W. Kidney Smart - Piedmont Newnan Hospital and a local dialysis group are working to raise education on kidney disease. A Kidney Smart class will be held at Piedmont Newnan Hospital, Poplar Road, July 10 at 4:30 p.m. The one-hour class is free and materials are sent home with the recipient, said Cassie Carson, a licensed practical nurse with Davita Dialysis of Newnan. All interested patients must go to www.kidneysmart.org under “classes near you” to register for any upcoming classes. Other classes are offered across Georgia for individuals that live farther.

Heart Healthy Class - Held last Tuesday of each month, 1 to 2:30 p.m., Piedmont Heart Institute, 20 Francis Way, Sharpsburg, third floor conference room. Register with cardiac rehab office, 678-854-2970.
