• Lt. Donald Ayers Memorial Golf Tournament is Sept. 5 at Summer Grove Golf Course. Benefit is to help the late officer’s family with medical expenses incurred during his battle against Hemochromatosis, a disease that attacks the liver and nervous system.Format is four-man Ft. Lauderdale (best ball). Tournament begins 9 a.m.; registration is 8 a.m. Entry $280 per team, or $70 per player - includes green fees, cart fees, range balls, lunch, and soft drinks on the course. • Benefit concert for Alzheimer’s canceled – The planned benefit for the fight against Alzheimer’s disease featuring Greg Bickley and the Tokyo Joe band with the music of Elton John has been canceled due to lack of sales. “Rocketman: A Tribute to Sir Elton John” had been planned for Sept. 12 at Southern Ground Amphitheater in Fayetteville.

• The 9th Annual Celebrating A Life: Keesha Vessell Vasculitis Walk will be held Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Temple Avenue Veterans Park at the corner of Jackson Street and Temple Avenue. Registration starts at 8 a.m., the walk begins at 8:45. It is a two-mile walk through Newnan. No preregistration required and there is no entry fee. Donations are appreciated as all money collected will go to the Vasculitis Foundation in Kansas City to promote awareness & help fund research.
