• The Alamo, 19 W. Court Sq. in downtown Newnan, Fri., Aug. 8 will feature punks Mikey & Friends. On Sat., Aug. 9, The Alamo is celebrating its 10-year anniversary with Departure, a Journey tribute band. Special drinks will be served all night. The shows begin at 9:30 p.m. Details: 770-683-2526.

• Southern Ground Social Club, 18 Main St., Senoia, Fri., Aug. 8, features return visit by Georgia country boy, Brian Collins. On Sat., Aug. 9, performing is Newnan country all-star, Corbette Jackson. With both shows, the doors open at 9 p.m. All ages are welcome and no cover charges at the Southern Ground. • The Project Haiti ministry at St. George Catholic Parish in Newnan will sponsor a fundraiser including auctions and raffles Friday, Aug. 8, at 7 p.m. The silent auction of items displayed on tables will close at 9 p.m. During the evening, live auctions will be held, and raffles and door prizes will be awarded. A $5 ticket admits one adult, and includes hors d'oeuvres, draft beer and wine. This is an “adults only” affair. • Charlie Daniels Band closes out summer series at Southern Ground Amphitheater in Fayetteville. Aug. 9 (Reserved $45, Lawn $30). Effortlessly blending country, gospel and southern rock, this outspoken patriot escalated to worldwide fame in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Known for “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” and other crowd favorites “In America” and “Long Haired Country Boy.” Opening for Charlie Daniels is Nashville-based singer, Jacob Powell. Southern Ground Amphitheater is owned by the Downtown Development Authority and managed by the Main Street Tourism Association of Fayetteville.

• “110 in the Shade” at Southside Theatre Guild, 20 W. Campbellton St., Fairburn, directed by Jared Wright, has last shows Aug. 8, 9 and 10. Fri., Sat. 8 p.m.; Sun. matinee 2:30 p.m. Tickets $16 advance online, $17.50 at door. Children, all shows, $8. Details: 770-969-0956.

• Couples dance and a beginner dance lesson is Friday, Aug. 8, at LaFayette Christian School Gym, 1904 Hamilton Rd., LaGrange. Dance lesson is 7:30 and the dance is 8-10:30 p.m. Attire: smart casual. • Local author Larissa Reinhart, a 50th Annual Georgia Author of the Year nominee, will sign copies of her newest novel, “Death in Perspective,” at the Peachtree City Library beginning at 2 p.m. Aug. 9. “Death in Perspective” is Reinhart’s fourth book in her best-selling Cherry Tucker mysteries series. In conjunction with the signing, the Friends of the Peachtree City Library have sponsored an art contest for elementary youth, youth, and adults. The winning entries will be announced at the Aug. 9 event.

• Motorcycle ride for Fragile Kids Foundation is Aug. 16, leaving from Gene Evans Great South Harley-Davidson, 185 E. Hwy. 16, Newnan, GA 30263. Cost: $25 donation, extra $10 for passenger. • Sunrise on the Square Road Race, held annually by Main Street Newnan, is Aug. 30 - the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. Race begins and ends in downtown Newnan; will follow the same route as last year. Also features a one-mile run and tot trot. • Benefit concert for Alzheimer’s – Greg Bickley and the Tokyo Joe band will perform the music made famous by Sir Elton John in a benefit for the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. “Rocketman: A Tribute to Sir Elton John” is Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Southern Ground Amphitheater in Fayetteville. Proceeds will benefit the Southern Crescent Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the Alzheimer’s Association-Georgia Chapter. The Alzheimer’s Walk will have participants from seven counties on Atlanta’s south side: Clayton, Coweta, Fayette, Henry, Meriwether, South Fulton, and Spalding. Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door. Tables for eight are available for $350. Tickets can be purchased online at www.rocketmanbenefitconcert.org.
