Coweta centers offer activities

Coweta senior centers both in Newnan and outlying communities offer a variety of activities weekly.

Tommy Thompson Senior Center, 29 Hospital Rd. in Newnan, has activities weekdays, Monday through Friday. The center offers lunch for a small fee. For details contact Director Ida Johnson at 770-683-8600 or 770-683-8602.

Activities on the calendar for the rest of this week are: Wednesday, June 4, Sit and Be Fit, Purse Scavenger Hunt and Movie at Regal Cinema; Thursday, June 5, Sit and Be Fit and Craft Day; Friday, June 6, Coweta County Fire Department blood pressure clinic, Walmart shopping, Sit and Be Fit and National Yo-Yo Day.

On the calendar next week are: Monday, June 9, Ollie’s shopping, Sit and Be Fit and Lets Laugh; Tuesday, June 10, United blood pressure clinic, sing-along with Cindy and Balloon Volleyball; Wednesday, June 11, Sit and Be Fit and Food Nutrition program with Candace and St. Smyrna Food Bank; Thursday, June 12, Gospel Heirs and Bingo; Friday, June 13, Coweta County Fire Department blood pressure clinic, Sit and Be Fit and The Fanci Dancers. A Widows Grief Support meeting is held every third Monday at 10:30 a.m. and the Red Hatters meet the first Friday of every month.

Coweta County’s other senior programs are at the county community centers in Welcome, Senoia and at Panther Creek (on Ga. Highway 16, Sargent). They offer a variety of activities and from time to time organize covered-dish luncheons and birthday recognitions.

The county community center programs are funded by the Coweta County Commission and operated under the Coweta Recreation Department. For further information contact Patricia Hood at 770-252-6429 or phood@coweta.ga.us.

• Welcome community seniors (1792 Welcome Road near Western School) meet every Tuesday, and refreshments are provided. Activities include arts and crafts, bingo, stamping and card making, bunco, covered dish luncheon, blood pressure check, and beading.

• Senoia area seniors meet at the center at 300 Howard Road every Wednesday with such activities as arts and crafts, bridge, cribbage classes, bingo, stamping and card making, covered dish luncheon, blood pressure check, musical entertainment and informational speakers. Refreshments are provided.

• The Panther Creek center (near the fire station at 2285 Highway 16 West, Sargent) has meetings each Wednesday. Activities include such games as arts and crafts, bingo, stamping and card making, knitting, covered dish luncheon, quilting, crocheting, blood pressure check, and macramé. Refreshments are served.
