Coweta centers offer activities

Tommy Thompson Senior Center, 29 Hospital Rd. in Newnan, has activities weekdays, Monday through Friday. The center offers lunch for a small fee. For details contact Director Ida Johnson at 770-683-8600 or 770-683-8602. Activities at Thompson Center remaining this week include: Wed., April 2, Sit and Be Fit and horse shoes; Thurs., April 3, Sit and Be Fit and bingo; Fri., April 4, Sit and Be Fit, Wii games, Coweta County Fire Department blood pressure clinic; Sat., April 5, Red Hatters meeting (first of every month).

Activities at Thompson Center for next week are: Mon., April 7, Walmart shopping, Sit and Be Fit and poker keno; Tues., April 8, Bible study and Brain Games; Wed., April 9, Sit and Be Fit and bingo; Thurs., April 10, Gospel Heirs and disk golf; Fri., April 11, Halcyon at 10 a.m., crafts, Coweta County Fire Department blood pressure clinic.

Coweta County’s other senior programs are at the county community centers in Welcome, Senoia and at Panther Creek (on Ga. Highway 16, Sargent). They offer a variety of activities and from time to time organize covered-dish luncheons and birthday recognitions.

The county community center programs are funded by the Coweta County Commission and operated under the Coweta Recreation Department. For further information contact Patricia Hood at 770-252-6429 or phood@coweta.ga.us.

• Welcome community seniors (1792 Welcome Road near Western School) meet every Tuesday, and refreshments are provided. Activities include arts and crafts, bingo, stamping and card making, bunco, covered dish luncheon, blood pressure check, and beading.

• Senoia area seniors meet at the center at 300 Howard Road every Wednesday with such activities as arts and crafts, bridge, cribbage classes, bingo, stamping and card making, covered dish luncheon, blood pressure check, musical entertainment and informational speakers. Refreshments are provided.

• The Panther Creek center (near the fire station at 2285 Highway 16 West, Sargent) has meetings each Wednesday. Activities include such games as arts and crafts, bingo, stamping and card making, knitting, covered dish luncheon, quilting, crocheting, blood pressure check, and macramé. Refreshments are served.

• The Coweta Seniors Spring Cookout at the Coweta County Fairgrounds and Conference Center on Pine Road is Wednesday, May 14 or Thursday, May 15 from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. To register call 770-254-3750. The lunch event is free to Coweta County senior citizens - 55 and over.
