• Cancer awareness and education event is Thursday, Nov. 7 from 9 - 11 a.m. at The Summit Family YMCA on Highway 34 E. This event is free and open to survivors, families, Y members and the local community. Through a partnership with Winship/Emory Cancer Survivorship program, Summit Y will be providing information on breast, prostate and lung cancers. A breast cancer nurse navigator and an oncology nurse practitioner will answer questions and help assess risks for attendees along with sharign tips for preventing cancer through nutrition and physical activity. • Alzheimer’s fundraiser – Savannah Court of Newnan’s fundraising lunch featuring Huckleberry BBQ of Pine Mountain (barbecue chicken, potato salad, baked beans, bread, a piece of cake, and a bottle of water) is Friday, Nov. 8, 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Cost is $10 per ticket. Make checks payable to the “Alzheimer’s Association.”

• Decision-making tools for Medicare plans is offered in three sessions at First Baptist Church on 15 West Washington St. Sessions will give information on Medicare options. Meetings are 10 a.m. to noon on Nov. 14 and Nov. 20. Call Gregory Coleman at 404-246-6252, to register.

• Cancer Support Group meets at First Baptist Church on second Wednesdays. Next meeting is Nov. 13, at 10 a.m. 15 West Washington Street, Room 129C. Programs focus on cancer and needs of Coweta’s cancer patients. Guests may be invited.

• Native American Pow Wow — Hearts that Meet is holding a Native American Pow Wow to benefit scoliosis patients on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Coweta County Fairgrounds. 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Admission is $2 per person. • Prostate Cancer Information Group meets Tuesday, Nov. 26, 7 p.m. at Cancer Wellness at Piedmont Fayette Hospital, 1267 Building (West Entrance), Third Floor, 1267 Hwy 54 West, Fayetteville, Ga. Program will include a series of short videos that describe the use of PROVENGE®, an FDA approved treatment, that can reprogram a patient’s own immune system to attack prostate cancer cells. • Race Away from Domestic Violence - 5K race at Ashley Park shopping center is Dec. 7. Begins and ends in front of Belk department store; door prizes and refreshments. Proceeds benefit Community Welcome House. Details: www.communitywelcomehouse.org .

• Biblical Counseling Training — Faith Bible Church in Sharpsburg is offering two Biblical Counseling Training sessions. Classes cover a practical theology of biblical counseling and a practical methodology of biblical counseling. Option one meets 7-9 p.m. on Mondays through Dec. 9, and Jan. 6 through April 28, 2014. • Kidney Smart — Piedmont Newnan Hospital and a local dialysis group hold Kidney Smart classes monthly second Wednesdays at Piedmont Newnan, Poplar Road, at 4:30 p.m. The one-hour class is free including materials. Fourth shift/ professional shift available for dialysis patients. Urgent Start is a program collaborating with hospitals regarding unexpected kidney failure in an attempt to avoid dialysis in center.
