• Alzheimer's Association fundraiser — The Newnan Ruby Tuesday's restaurant through the company's Ruby Tuesday's Community GiveBack Program is working with the local Alzheimer's Association to raise funds for the Walk To End Alzheimer's. On specified dates, for meals where patrons mention the Alzheimer's Association effort, the Ruby Tuesday's at 1120 Bullsboro Drive will give 20 percent of the purchase to the organization. Upcoming dates include: Aug. 6, 20, 24 and 27. "They must mention they are there for the event," said Alzheimer's Association volunteer Lynnette Smith.

• Children’s Health Month health screenings are being hosted by Sam’s Club to help parents and kids get ready for back to school. The screening offer free tests and kits ( valued at up to $50) including: Take-home DNA kit, Child safety ID kit, Dental tablets, Body mass index (BMI), Blood pressure, and Vision screening. Events are Aug. 10, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at all Sam’s Club locations with a pharmacy, including at the store at 310 Fisher Rd., Sharpsburg.

• Biblical Counseling Training — Faith Bible Church in Sharpsburg offers two Biblical Counseling Training sessions beginning in August. Classes cover a practical theology of biblical counseling and a practical methodology of biblical counseling. Option one meets 7-9 p.m. Mondays, Aug. 26 through Dec. 9, and Jan. 6 through April 28, 2014. Option two meets 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. two Saturdays a month Sept. 7 - Dec. 7 and Jan. 4 - April 19, 2014. • Parkinson's Support Group meets at First United Methodist Church, Greenville Street, Newnan, second Tuesdays, 3:30 p.m. Meetings are in the Gathering Room in the main building. Caregivers welcome. Details: Herman Fletcher, 770-251-1687.

• Spina Bifida Association of Georgia holds SBAG's Walk-N-Roll Oct. 6 at Georgia Tech's campus in Atlanta. For details check at Sbag@spinabifidaga.org .

• Cancer Support Group will resume its meetings in the fall. Group normally meets at First Baptist Church of Newnan, 15 W. Items may be donated or obtained by calling John and Nancy Weinig at 770-502-1835.

• Kidney Smart — Piedmont Newnan Hospital and a local dialysis group are working to raise education on kidney disease. Kidney Smart classes are held regularly. The one-hour class is free and materials are sent home with the recipient, said Cassie Carson, a licensed practical nurse with Davita Dialysis of Newnan. All interested patients must go to www.kidneysmart.org under “classes near you” to register for any upcoming classes. Classes are offered across Georgia for individuals that live farther.

• Heart Healthy Class — Held last Tuesday of each month, 1 to 2:30 p.m., Piedmont Heart Institute, 20 Francis Way, Sharpsburg, third floor conference room. Register with cardiac rehab office, 678-854-2970.
