Darien Alan Key attains Eagle Scout rank

Darien Alan Key, of Boy Scout Troop 59 in Newnan, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. 


Darien Alan Key of Newnan has earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

He is a member of Troop 59 in Newnan. Eagle Scout is the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, and Key is one of approximately four percent of all Scouts who attain the Eagle rank.

In addition to his 21 merit badges, which were required for the rank of Eagle Scout, Key earned an additional 15 merit badges.

He successfully organized and led a community leadership service project, which benefited the Georgia Baptist Children's Home in Palmetto, Georgia. He built a porch swing with a roof and added mulch, overlooking the lake.

Key has held numerous Boy Scout leadership positions, including Quartermaster, Patrol Leader and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader.

He also completed Boy Scouts' National Youth Leadership Training.

Key is a sophomore at East Coweta High School, where he is a member of the marching band drum line.

In addition to scouting, he enjoys traveling with his family. Key has been a member of Saint Smyrna Baptist Church in Newnan for more than seven years.

Key's entire family is active in scouting. His father, Milton, is an assistant scoutmaster with his troop, and his mother, Shirley, is a co-leader in his sister Kirsten's Girl Scout troop.
