Naval Sea Cadets James E. Brown and Clayton A. Hellwig spent their Christmas holiday in Naval Sea Cadet Corps Recruit Training at Ft. Benning, Ga.
The program was intense, requiring that cadets train more than 18 hours per day, according to Lt. Junior Grade Robert Wylie, the commanding officer of Newnan-area Naval Sea Cadet Corps.
Curricula included an average of six hours per day in classroom training where cadets learned about the chain of command, naval heritage and military honors and courtesies. Cadets completed exercises in solving complex logistic problems as well as a moderate obstacle course. The course also tested both the cadets' physical and swimming qualifications.
Cadets were required to march approximately 10 miles a day and engage in physical training in all kinds of weather. Successful completion of this training required each graduating cadet to meet or exceed minimum physical and academic requirements.
"To cadets Brown and Hellwig, well done," said Wylie.
