Music in good and bad times

By Nichole Golden

The Newnan Times-Herald

"GoodTimes/BadTimes" is musician Eddie Jackson's favorite song on his soon- to-be released CD, "Feels Like Rain."

The Newnan resident and father says the song is about how you want to give your children "the world," including material things, but what they should and will always have is your time and love. Perhaps, it is a song that will resonate with people in these tough economic times.

Jackson said his CD, which has 12 songs, is about "love and having a good time."

Most of the tracks on the CD are Jackson's original songs. He has been writing songs since he was a child by jotting down thoughts on what other people were going through in life.

For two of the songs, he collaborated with local rappers.

Jackson and his wife, Cassandra, have two daughters, Kayla, 6, and Adrianna, 2. They are both being exposed to music, and already have definite opinions about what they want to hear.

Jackson has his own recording studio and produced this CD, which will become available officially on digi stations Saturday. This new age of technology gives the "artist more control," he says. The dream of having a CD is more accessible to those with talent and dreams.

Using the name Eddie J, Jackson has made news in the music world before. He had a song on a compilation CD in 2004 featuring other artists like Nelly Furtado on the Red Star Sounds label. His song was "You Make Me Wanna' Smile Again."

Jackson moved to Newnan four years ago from Phenix City, Ala., and has also lived in New York.

"He motivates me," said manager Reginald Williams about Jackson's passion for music.

A CD preview/release event for "Feels Like Rain" will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Country Inn & Suites in Newnan.

Jackson is looking forward to meeting other musicians and sharing his music with the public. He has his own recording studio and loves to work with "other artists who are serious" about music.

"There's a lot of hidden talent out there," said Jackson.
