The Community Welcome House is one of the first non-profits to receive a grant through the Grants to Green initiative, a program that helps nonprofits improve environmental efficiencies.
Last June, the Community Welcome House received a Grants to Green assessment grant, which provided an audit of the building's internal and external structures and features to improve its cost-effectiveness and overall impact on the environment. In November 2008, the program received an implementation grant to proceed with the improvements. Welcome House has partnered with RL Ward Contractors LLC for the implementation of this project.
"We hope others in our community understand the importance of the changes that can be made to protect the environment of our community," says Linda Kirkpatrick, executive director of Community Welcome House.
Allan Rainwater, Community Welcome House board member, is the liaison for this project.
Community Welcome House thanks The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, Southface and Enterprise Community Partners for the unique opportunity to be one of the first nonprofits to lead the community in ways to preserve the environment.
Last year, Community Welcome House, an emergency and transitional safe-haven for women and children victims of domestic violence, admitted 134 residents into its facility, located in Newnan.
