Newnan Notes

By GINA SNIDER City of Newnan Public Information Officer The city of Newnan's building department has received plans for a Bonefish Grill. The restaurant will be located in Ashley Park behind Charming Charlie's. The corner space is approximately 30,000 square feet. Bonefish Grill specializes in market fresh fish and seafood cooked to perfection over a wood-burning grill.
* * * There were three new occupational tax certificates issued by the city. The business names are Ice Cream King, Redbox Automated Retail and Sonya Montour Two Girls, a Mop and Broom. * * * Spring is here and the engineering department would like to remind you of some pruning, tree and brush removal, and planting information. Please remember to be careful when working near a creek. Only hand cut small underbrush, and minimize tree pruning. Trees and bushes help moderate the temperature of the water; filter pesticides, nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment; and help prevent bank erosion. State and local ordinances prohibit clearing of buffers without a permit. For more information, contact the engineering department. * * * Keep Newnan Beautiful believes that every consumer makes two important choices that affect the amount of waste in America -- what products we choose to buy or use, and how we choose to dispose of the product when finished with it. Garbage is not something we want to think about every day, but managing waste has long-term environmental and economic consequences that can't be ignored. Since 1960, the amount of waste generated in America has nearly tripled. Americans generate 251.3 million tons of garbage per year. Our society as a whole -- consumers, corporations and governments -- must think proactively about reducing our impact. * * * The city of Newnan Animal Control Officer, Cyndi Hoffman, gives moving tips for you and your pet. * Plan ahead. Advance planning will make your move less stressful on you and your pet. Pack over a period of time, and try to maintain your pet's normal routine. * Invest in a high-quality, sturdy pet carrier. If you have a dog or cat whom you want to keep safely confined on moving day, get a carrier ahead of time and gradually accustom your pet to spending time in it. * Purchase a new ID tag for your pet. As soon as you know your new address, get a pet ID tag that includes your new address and telephone number(s). * Keep your pet secure. On moving day, place your pet (whether in the carrier or not) in a safe, quiet place, such as the bathroom, so that he or she cannot escape, and be sure that friends and professional movers are aware that the room is off-limits. * Make your car trip safe. * Talk to your veterinarian. If your pet doesn't enjoy car rides, consult your veterinarian about behavior modification or medication that might lessen the stress of travel. Depending on your destination, your pet may also need additional vaccinations, medications and health certificates. * Find hotels in advance. Listings of animal-friendly hotels will help you find overnight lodging during your move. Our online information on Finding Animal-Friendly Hotel Accommodations will point you toward some useful resources and get your planning on track. * Prepare your new home. Take with you all the familiar and necessary things your pet will need from day one in your new home: food, water, medications, bed, litter box, food and water bowls, and health records. Also have a recent photo of your pet, for use if your pet becomes lost.
