Piedmont Newnan Hospital celebrates first year in new facility

Piedmont Newnan Hospital has marked one year in its new facilities on Poplar Road.

Piedmont Newnan Hospital recently celebrated its first anniversary in the new hospital facility on Poplar Road. 

The one-year-old, 362,000-square-foot hospital was designed to improve patient access, flexibility, operational efficiencies and have an abundance of green spaces and natural areas available to patients throughout the campus.

In a few weeks, the facility will likely receive LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building design certification for having met multiple requirements for an energy and environmental efficient hospital.

In addition to this milestone, Piedmont Newnan surpassed a number of others including:

• 920 babies delivered, including Kimberly Gomez-Elvira, the first baby born at the new Piedmont Newnan Hospital, on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at 7:55 p.m.

• 5,749 surgeries performed, including Piedmont Newnan’s first-ever robotic surgery: an abdominal hysterectomy performed on April 29, 2013. With robotic-assisted surgery now offered closer to home, Cowetans will benefit from less pain, fewer complications, shorter hospital stays, less scarring and quicker recovery times without having to travel far.

• Fifty-thousand patients treated in the new 23-bed emergency department during the first year.

• 480 — The number of people who visited Cancer Wellness at Piedmont Newnan, which includes free services and programs to cancer patients, survivors and caregivers (regardless of whether or not they are Piedmont patients). Cancer Wellness at Piedmont was brought to Coweta, thanks to a gift to Piedmont Healthcare Foundation from Tom Chapman and family.

• September 4, 2012. The date of the first wedding held at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Catalina and Ciro Gonzalez married as a symbol of unity in Catalina’s battle with a severe illness.

• Last fall, Piedmont Newnan was named the 2012 Small Hospital of the Year by the Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals. The hospital also was awarded a Design Citation by Modern Healthcare.

• February 1, 2013. The date Piedmont Newnan transitioned to a new, comprehensive electronic medical record and practice management system called Epic. Piedmont Newnan was the first among Piedmont hospitals to achieve this.
