Coleman joins Association of Professional Women

by Staff Reports

Deborah S. Coleman, owner of Shay’s Soaps, was recently honored with membership in the National Association of Professional Women.

The New York-based organization is an exclusive network for professional women to interact and exchange ideas, and educate and empower specially invited business owners.

Shay’s Soaps offers natural herb-based soaps and other beauty products that are all hand-made by Coleman in her home. She started the business in 2005, naming it after her mother, who died unexpectedly at a young age of a rare genetic disease.

“Many have asked why ‘Shay’s Soaps,’” Coleman said.

Her products are available in many local shops as well as at local festivals.

• NG Turf offers Olympic grasses

Zeon Zoysia has been chosen as the grass for the fairways, roughs, and tees for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

NG Turf in Whitesburg is one of eight licensed growers of Zeon Zoysia in the state of Georgia.

The 2016 Olympics will be the first time that golf has been an Olympic sport in over 100 years.

Zeon is very environmentally friendly, said David Doguet, president of Bladerunner Farms, which bred Zeon Zoysia. It needs little water and very low amounts of fertilizer, Doguet said. The Olympic course “will be an example of sustainability and preservation of an environmentally protected area,” said Carlos Arthur Nuzman, president of Rio 2016.
