You can drop school supplies off at the Newnan Hampton Inn between now and the day of the event.

Kohl’s awards three scholarships in Atlanta area

Kohl’s Department stores awarded $1,000 scholarships to 182 youth volunteers around the country through its Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program.

Three winners were from the Atlanta area, including Olivia Ries, 11, of Fayetteville.

Ries launched an endangered species rhino campaign to raise awareness of the issues of rhino poaching in South Africa, including a youth letter writing campaign. She personally delivered more than 10,000 letters to South African President Jacob Zuma and the South African Environmental Ministry.

Each regional-level winner qualifies for one of ten $10,000 scholarships, which will be announced at the end of July. Those winners will also see $1,000 donated to the nonprofits of their choice.

Since the program has begun, Kohl’s has recognized more than 22,000 youth, with more than $4.3 million in scholarships and prizes.
