Finkelstein new chairman of Georgia Association of Manufacturers

Burl Finkelstein of Kason Industries has been named 2014 chairman of the Georgia Association of Manufacturers.

Finkelstein is executive vice president and general counsel of Kason, headquartered in Newnan.

The Georgia Association of Manufacturers has been in existence for 114 years. Finkelstein is the first person to be named chairman who is not an executive in the textile or carpet industries.

Finkelstein has served in a number of engineering and executive positions in his 36 years at Kason Industries, a leading manufacturer of commercial hardware and replacement parts for the refrigeration, food service, and other industries. He is responsible for the overall operations of three of Kason Industries’ plants, including overseeing manufacturing methods and equipment selection.

Finkelstein also serves as general counsel, a role which requires him to direct outside counsel on a wide variety of legal issues and supervise the company’s involvement in any legal actions.

Fitzgerald named to Rural Hospital Stabilization Committee

Dr. Thomas Fitzgerald, of the emergency medicine department at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, has been named by Gov. Nathan Deal to the Rural Hospital Stabilization Committee. The committee was created to identify needs of the rural hospital community and provide potential solutions. The committee has 15 members, including three doctors.

“In March of this year, I proposed three revisions to the way we approach rural health care, with one being the Rural Hospital Stabilization Committee,” Deal said. “I recognize the critical need for hospital infrastructure in rural Georgia and remain committed to ensuring citizens throughout the state have the ability to receive the care that they need. This committee will work to increase the flow of communication between hospitals and the state and improve our citizens’ access to health care. I am proud to welcome this team and look forward to what we stand to accomplish.”
