Wesley & Warren Budd

What has been your basic outlook on the way you’ve done business throughout the years?

Warren: We look after the client first and try to help them do what they want to do. If you do that, you’ll make it in any business. I’ve been in business for 50 years and I think that’s how I have stayed in business. This has been a great business to be in and this has been a great community. We’ve been here since 1972 and I have never once felt excluded because I wasn’t from here. It’s been an incredible place to live and do business in.

What has been the biggest change you’ve seen in the community over the course of your career?

Warren: The growth of the community has to be one of the biggest factors and it became dependent on development. Then in ‘08, it took a clobbering from the three banks going down along with those involved in the building industry. It created a huge recession. It seems to be coming out of it now. At least $100,000,000 in stock was lost out of this community.

Wesley: It was devastating. A lot of people have been hurt and are still hurting.

If you weren’t doing this, what would you be doing?

Warren: I had originally debated about being an attorney. My father advised me to do this and I’m glad I’ve done what I’ve done. I love what I do and it’s why I’m still working and it’s why I enjoy working with my son.

Wesley: I never thought I would be doing this but my dad has always been one of my heroes. He taught me all about working hard and also helping other people. Whether it’s teaching Sunday School, helping someone find a job or talking to folks about their retirement. I spent so much time watching my father help other people. Coming back home to work for my dad has truly been an honor.
