What has made the Coweta area a good fit for your business?
Technically? The growth in my company has been directly proportional to the growth in Coweta County. While the rest of the country has had some pretty down years of late, our county and Sign & Graphic Solutions, Inc. has fared pretty well. (Much thanks to Piedmont Hospital, Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Ashley Park…etc!) Realistically? I have lived in Coweta, or close by, for nearly 30 years on and off. The fact that I don’t have to drive 40-50 miles and spend two to three hours of my day commuting is a major benefit! Plus, the simple fact of doing business with your friends, family and neighbors on a daily basis is just about the best feeling I think a business owner could have. Much of our growth has stemmed from simple referrals from these people and to which I owe greatly.
What's the most rewarding part of owning your own business?
Well, to start, I have been fortunate enough to have lived a pretty fulfilling life thus far. I spent six years in the military, serving in the first Gulf War. Went back to school and achieved my Electrical Engineering degree, worked in R&D for a number of years; then went on to work at an International Telecommunication company which allowed me to travel the world and even live abroad with my family for a few years. The decision to stop traveling and to start a business in Coweta County some 10 years ago has allowed me to primarily spend more time with my school age kids, but it has also allotted me time to donate a large portion of my time, efforts and business activities to many civic related activities in our community. The freedom of “time,” for instance, to coach my son’s baseball team the last nine years, or to take international trips with my daughter each year or to donate a large portion of my business profits to various local charities each year in the form of cash, products and labor has been an extremely satisfying blessing to me.
What's the best business lesson you've learned so far?
Hmmm, actually three things come to mind as lessons learned: First and foremost, The Golden Rule not only applies 24/7 in my life but also includes our business practices. Secondly, always set reasonable expectations with the client, but then deliver way above and beyond! Lastly, at the end of the day, my Graphics business is no different than any other business… It’s all about people! Always be grateful, provide superior quality and customer experiences.
