Did you see more activity during the Christmas season than usual?
I was more surprised at the amount of stores on the Court Square that were closed — especially on Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas — which was such a busy day for us. This December wasn’t as good as last year. It’s close, but I think we lost some shopping days this year. September was our worst month in the last three years, but November beat the last two years combined. I think people were doing their shopping a little earlier.
I wish more of the downtown businesses would have extended their hours since some were closing as early as 4 p.m. We stayed open until 9 p.m. on some nights and were open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays during December.
What do you attribute the success of Full Circle to?
We’re kind of niche. We offer stuff that you can’t get elsewhere. We basically deal in childhood memories. This Christmas we sold a ton of records and vinyl.
What’s the most important business lesson you’ve learned over the years as a small business owner?
You just can’t isolate your business to only one area when there is an entire world at your door. Since 70 percent of our business is online, I guess the lesson would be that you have to be able to adapt with the times. We ship worldwide every day. You just can’t be local anymore. We’re selling old stuff the new way.
