Georgia Telework Week
State's work-from-home trend shows growth

In spite of Yahoo CEO’s decision to remove its telework program, a recent study in metro Atlanta shows that telework is booming and 64 percent of managers believe it provides their organizations a competitive advantage.
In fact, Governor Nathan Deal recently designated Aug. 19-23 as Georgia Telework Week.
During Georgia Telework Week, The Clean Air Campaign, Georgia Commute Options partners and Governor Deal teamed up to educate employers about the continued growth of telework and its role as a workplace strategy.
“Our team has worked with more than 250 employers to implement formal telework programs that help increase worker productivity and save on overhead costs,” said Mike Williams, director of employer services at The Clean Air Campaign. “We’re pleased to join Governor Deal to raise awareness about telework as a viable business strategy and the free supporting resources available through Georgia Commute Options.”
For many communities, telework is a low-cost strategy offering fuller employment, reducing traffic congestion and accidents, relieving pressure on transportation infrastructure, reducing greenhouse gases and reducing energy use.
Georgia is already a national leader in telework. In metro Atlanta 600,000 people, or one quarter of all commuters, telework at least occasionally, making it the most popular commute alternative. But there is plenty of opportunity for growth with nearly 242,000 commuters in the region indicating they do not telework but are interested in starting.
During Georgia Telework Week, The Clean Air Campaign hosted two free Telework Summit events providing new ideas and guidance for employers looking to implement a formal telework program, tune up their existing program, or expand on the success of their current efforts. Seminars were held in Gwinnett County and the Perimeter area, featuring presentations from AT&T Mobility, Assurant, Chico’s, Georgia 811 and other local employers discussing their successful approaches to telework.
Employers were invited to pledge their support or attend one of the two Telework summit events for insight on improving telework efforts from local leaders in both the private and public sectors.
