Business Briefs: Five Below opens Friday

Discount variety store Five Below will open Friday in the Newnan Pavilion shopping center, on Bullsboro Drive at Interstate 85.

Five Below is an "extreme value" retailer, with all merchandise priced under $5. The store caters to teens and pre-teens with a wide assortment of trends and products, such as iPad and iPhone cases and accessories, sports and fitness equipment, fashion accessories and cosmetics, toys and games, seasonal merchandise and more.

Five Below has more than 250 stores in 18 states, with more than 30 stores set to open this year. The Newnan store marks the 12th location in metro-Atlanta. The first metro-Atlanta store opened last June.

Academy Sports opens Friday

The Newnan location of Academy Sports and Outdoors will open its doors Friday. The store is located in the Newnan Pavilion shopping center, 1096 Bullsboro Drive.

The new store features 73,000 square feet of footwear, apparel, sports and leisure products and hunting, fishing and camping equipment.

A ribbon cutting will be held Thursday, and the store opens to the public Friday at 8 a.m.

Jo-Ann to open Aug. 30

The Newnan location of Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts, in the Newnan Pavilion shopping center, will open Aug. 30. Grand opening events are scheduled for Sept. 12 - 14.

The store will carry a large assort of crafting, floral and seasonal accessories, as well as an expansive selection of fabrics for apparel, crafting and home decorating, and finished home decor items.

There will also be classes designed to teach a variety of sewing and crafting techniques at all skill levels.

Kroger collecting school supplies

Kroger's Atlanta Division, in partnership with Children's Restoration Network and WSB-TV, is holding its 19th annual "Back 2 School" campaign to collect school supplies for underprivileged children in metro-Atlanta.

Children's Restoration Network focuses on homeless children in the metro area.

"We encourage customers from across the Atlanta area to support Children’s Restoration Network’s more than 130 shelters and 4,000-plus youth by participating in the upcoming ‘Back 2 School’ drive,” said Glynn Jenkins, director of communications and public relations for Kroger’s Atlanta Division. “With each donation, we can help provide children of all backgrounds with the tools necessary to succeed academically.”

Items requested include new and gently used book bags, wide and college-ruled notebook paper, spiral notebooks, three ring binders, pens and pencils, calculators, markers, scissors, file folders, rulers, crayons, glue, and dictionaries. Kroger customers can also purchase a prepackaged school supply bag at area metro Atlanta stores to use as their donation.
