Jobless rate for Coweta dips to 7.2 percent

Coweta County’s unemployment rate dipped again for November to 7.2 percent.
The county rate was 7.5 percent for October.
November jobless rates for the Three Rivers planning district 10-county region were: Coweta, 7.2 percent; Carroll, 8.4; Heard, 8.7; Troup, 9.2; Meriwether, 9.8; Spalding, 11; Pike, 9.1; Upson, 10.7; Lamar, 10.4; Butts, 10.9.
The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the preliminary unemployment rate in the Three Rivers region declined to 8.9 percent in November, down one-tenth of a percentage point from 9.0 percent in October. The rate was 9.8 percent in November 2011.

September jobless rates for the Three Rivers planning district 10-county region were: Coweta, 7.8 percent; Carroll, 8.9; Heard, 9.5; Troup, 9.5; Meriwether, 10.2; Spalding, 10.8; Pike, 8.7; Upson, 11.0; Lamar, 10.6; Butts, 9.9.
The Three Rivers rate decreased for November because of fewer new layoffs in accommodations and food services, retail trade, and transportation and warehousing, said state officials.

Metro Athens had the lowest area jobless rate in the state at 6.2 percent, while metro Dalton had the highest at 11 percent.

Meanwhile, Georgia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined to 8.5 percent in November, down two-tenths of a percentage point from 8.7 percent in October. The rate was 9.5 percent in November a year ago.

Statewide, there were 3,984,000 jobs in November, up 9,600, or two-tenths of a percentage point, from 3,974,400 in October. Over the year, Georgia gained 61,900 jobs, or 1.6 percent, from 3,922,100 in November 2011.
