MS Soccer: Arnall boys, Madras girls take top seeds into playoffs

Arnall’s boys and the Madras girls soccer teams will take No. 1 seeds into this week’s Coweta County Middle School Athletic League Cup Tounament starting Monday.
First round and semifinal matches will be split between East Coweta Middle and ECHS’ Garland Shoemake Stadium on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
This year’s champions will be crowned on Wednesday at East Coweta High School.
The Madras Lady Eagles, last year’s cup champions, finished tied atop the girls standings with Lee, each with identical 8-1-1 records.
The two teams split regular season meetings with Madras winning 3-0 and Lee snapping the Lady Eagles’ 23-game win streak with a 1-0 victory on Dec. 3.
Madras earned the tiebreaker by goal differential following a 1-1 tie to close the regular season on Wednesday at home against Arnall.

Kara Groover scored for the Lady Eagles on an assist by Caroline Peters. Lauren Kadlick finished with nine saves.

Both the Madras and Lee girls' teams receive first-round byes.

Lee (8-1-1) ended the regular season with a 5-0 win at East Coweta Middle while receiving a goal and an assist from Laura Walick. Gabby Lotter, Bailey Swindell, Celena Taylor and Kylie Doster also scored.

Monday’s first-round girls matchups at ECMS include No. 4 Evans (2-6-2) playing No. 5 Smokey Road (2-7-1) while No 3 seed Arnall (5-2-3) faces East Coweta.

The CCMSAL boys tournament begins with Arnall grabbing the top seed as the league’s lone unbeaten team following Wednesday’s 2-1 victory at home against Madras.

Will LaGuardia’s two goals, one of which coming off an assist by Milton Gonzalez, helped the Knights finish the regular season at 9-0-1 overall.

Madras, which finished 8-1-1 following its only loss, also receives a first-round bye. Jacky Cheng scored the Eagles’ goal in Wednesday’s game.

Monday’s first-round games feature No. 4 seed Lee (4-5-1) facing No. 5 Smokey Road (2-8-0) at East Coweta High. Evans, which is third at 4-4-1, plays East Coweta in the other opener.

Evans completed the regular season with a 2-1 victory over Smokey Road at home on goals by Matthew Crow and Alex Clomba. Ari Carballido made 10 saves and Dre Parks added six in the victory.

Smokey Road’s goal came from Keonte Anderson and Nick Parks had seven saves for the Wildcats.

Lee is coming off a 3-1 victory over East Coweta to close the regular season that included two goals by Ryan Aten and another from Stephen Andeson. Santi Frias scored for the Indians.
