PEACHTREE CITY -- The Senoia Sluggers had a pair of very close games Monday night in the Fourth District All-star Tournament of Little League Baseball at the Peachtree City Baseball Complex.
The 11-12 year old version of the Sluggers came back from a 6-1 deficit to defeat the South Fulton Giants 9-7 in a Pool A game while the 13-14 version never trailed but had to hold on for a 7-5 win over the Spalding All-Stars.
Senoia struggled at the beginning of the 11-12 game but took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Graden Treadwell singled and advanced around to third on an outfield error before coming home on a wild pitch.
The lead didn't last long as the Giants tied the game with an unearned run in the bottom of the frame and took the lead in the bottom of the second inning as they scored five runs.
The Sluggers rallied in the top of third inning as Taylor Norris walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch while a Giants error and a double by Jesse Lowe led to a pair of runs to cut the margin to 6-4.
The Sluggers tied the game at 6-6 with two outs in the top of the fourth inning as Moreland McCloud and Josh Worth each scored on wild pitches by the Giants then took an 8-6 lead with two outs in the top of the fifth as Dillon Faison and McCloud each had RBI singles.
South Fulton cut the margin to 8-7 in the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo home run but Senoia got the lead back in the top of the sixth inning as Treadwell lined a shot to center field for a triple and came home on an errant throw on the play.
Treadwell was the leading hitter for the Sluggers as he went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored three runs.
In the 13-14 game, would take an early 2-0 lead as Josh Chmierewski and Jemarcus Godfrey reached on errors with Chmierewski scoring on a wild pitch while Godfrey came home when he stole third and was able to advance when the catcher's throw went into left field.
The All-Stars scored an unearned run in the bottom of the second inning but the Sluggers would get the run back in the top of the third inning as Tyler Tathum reached on a two out double to left field and came home on a bloop single to right by Sam Thomas.
In the only inning that Sluggers starting pitcher Cody Spicer came in the bottom of the third inning when he retired the first batter before giving up a single and two doubles that led to a pair of runs and a 3-3 tie.
The Sluggers made the top of the fourth inning interesting as an attempt to take two bases on a passed ball failed with another runner getting picked off before Andrew McKee walked and eventually scored on a pair of errors to give Senoia a 4-3 lead.
The Sluggers added a run in the top of the fifth inning when Godfrey single and eventually came around to score a run and Thomas would contribute a pair of important RBIs in the top of the seventh with a two-run home-run.
After pitching six quality innings, Spicer tossed three pitches which resulted in two singles and an infield error as well as two runs that cut the lead to 7-5.
Spicer would be lifted as he hit the 95 pitch limit imposed by LLB in favor of Chmierewski who was able to minimize the damage with a pair of force plays and a strikeout.
